You’ve finished reading Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, and now it’s time to celebrate! We’ve got a couple of fun ideas to inspire you.
meal inspiration
What better way to celebrate the end of the Nevermoor Book Club than with the same meal the newest members of the Wundrous society enjoyed with their patrons?!
A few days later, Jupiter and Nan took their candidates out for a belated celebration. They had lamb shanks and ginger beer in a cosy pub on Courage Square, toasting Morrigan and Hawthorne’s success.
We’ve included a delicious recipe for lamb shanks with mashed potatoes and peas below.
lamb shanks with mashed potatoes and peas

ingredients
4 lamb shanks
plain flour, for dusting
1T olive oil
1 brown onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, sliced
2 sticks cinnamon
4 sprigs rosemary
3 sprigs thyme
2 bay leaves
salt and pepper, to taste
2T tomato paste
1T brown sugar
1 x 400g can crushed tomatoes
1c red wine
2c beef stock
mashed potato, to serve
green peas, to serve
method
Toss the lamb shanks in the flour, shaking off any excess.
Place the olive oil in a large casserole dish on the stove top over high heat. Brown the shanks. Remove and set aside.
Lower the heat to low and cook the onions and garlic until golden. Return the shanks to the pan. Add the herbs, cinnamon, salt and pepper, tomato paste, sugar, tomatoes, wine and beef stock.
Place the lid onto the casserole dish and then place in the oven.
Cook at 150ºc (300ºf) in the oven for four hours. Or you could cook in the slow cooker on low for eight hours.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes and peas.
some fun and fitting decorations
Of course, everyone attending your Nevermoor Bookclub celebration should be wearing their Wundrous Society Pin!
We've also created a fun printable that you can download and make your very own 'STEP BOLDLY' umbrella garland to decorate and display. You can download your free printable garland from the resources library right here.
something fun
We love the idea of concluding your book club with something extra fun! For the Nevermoor Family Book Club what would be more appropriate than holding a Show Trial?! See what interesting, useful and good knacks you can invent and take turns presenting your knack to the rest of your group.
‘But, the fourth trial. That’s the one you’re concerned about. It’s rather dramatically called the Show Trial, but honestly, it’s very straightforward. Same thing every year. Each candidate who’s made it through the first three trials must stand before the High Council of Elders and show them something.’ Morrigan frowned. ‘Something...?’ ‘Something interesting. And useful. And good.’
